Vase Forms: Sculptural and Utilitarian

The wood fired bud vase shown below was juried into "Vase Forms: Sculptural and Utilitarian Ceramics". Juror Matt Mitros selected works that explore the subject of the vase and its use as a vessel,  functioning as decorative objects themselves or as a canvas to convey a conceptual idea.  This exhibition will be shown at the Arts Alliance of Georgia's Studio 101 Gallery, 101 Emma Lane, Suite 110, Woodstock, Georgia (Woodstock is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area). Exhibition dates are February 8th through March 3rd, 2013.

Functional/Dysfunctional: National Juried Ceramics Exhibition

The sake cup shown below was juried into Morean Arts Center’s "Functional/Dysfunctional National Juried Ceramics Competition". Out of over 220 entries, 79 were selected for the show by jurors Kathy King and Steven Young Lee. Morean Arts Center, located at 719 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, FL, hosts this exhibition  January 12th - February 24th, 2013. An opening and awards reception will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013, from 5-8pm.

International Ceramic Cup Show

The sake cup shown below was recently juried into "Drink This! The Workhouse International Ceramic Cup Show". Juror Linda Arbuckle selected 70 pieces for exhibition out of over 400 entries. Workhouse Arts Center, part of Lorton Arts Foundation, is hosting this show, which will run January 9th - February 10th, 2013. There will be a reception on January 12th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The address is 9601 Ox Road, Lorton, VA.

Opening Night in Boston

The opening for "Shuki: The Intimate Vessels of Sake" had a fantastic turnout. Boston bore no ill effects from the hurricane earlier in the week, so all went according to plan. Here are numerous pictures taken that evening at Vessels Gallery (450 Harrison Avenue)...

Available were the Shuki exhibition catalog, as well as Robert Yellin's book on sake vessels.

Hiromi Matsukawa, along with his wife and daughter, who flew in from Japan to attend the opening. This was Hiromi san's debut showing in America. Also pictured is Diane KW (left), Japan's Deputy Consulate General to Boston (behind Hiromi san), Bobbie Tunnard, and Nancy Cushman (right foreground).

International Ceramics Biennial

The three pieces shown below were recently selected for exhibition in the "Cups of Comfort International Ceramics Biennial". Juried by Ray Chen, this show will be held in the Swope Art Museum's  Halcyon Gallery, located at 25 South 7th Street, Terra Haute, IN. This exhibition runs from November 2nd through December 4th, 2012. An opening reception will be held on November 2nd, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
