7th Annual National Juried Cup Exhibition
These two wood fired sake cups have been selected for exhibition in the 7th Annual National Juried Cup Exhibition, being held at LUX Center for the Arts; Lincoln, NE. Exhibition dates are April 3rd through May 30th in Folsom Gallery. An opening reception is slated for the evening of April 3rd from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Brian Harper was the juror.

Friends of Fire
In conjunction with the 2015 NCECA conference in Providence, Rhode Island (March 25th-28th), Gustin Ceramics Gallery is presenting an invitational exhibition of wood fired ceramics: "Friends of Fire". Included artists are guests from across the USA, as well as those who are crew members of the wood firings at Gustin's. For additional information regarding the kiln opening and exhibition opening, see the gallery card below. Kurinuki

1st Place Award
It was an honor to have two of my sake cups given awards in "Drink This! Workhouse International Ceramic Cup Show", which opened this past Wednesday, January 8th. One award was for first place, and the other was for honorable mention. More special, however, is that these placements were awarded by the juror, Phil Rogers (UK). I have admired Phil's work for many years, first learning of him through his book on ash glazes when I was in undergraduate school at ECU studying ceramics. For me, he epitomizes the very best of functional studio ceramics. The following is what he wrote, as part of his juror's statement, about Guinomi with Champy Black:
"The bowl that has attracted first prize is one that I was immediately drawn to. The subtle and gradual changes of colour as one's eyes move across the wood fired surface of the piece, together with the almost tangible softness of the glaze, makes it almost edible. The form is as perfectly orchestrated as it can be, and the shell imprint just adds another dimension. It is, for me at least, the stand-out entry, and, as a wood firer myself, a bowl that I covet unashamedly." -Phil Rogers

All Things Tea
The following two wood fired pieces were recently juried into All Things Tea, an exhibition representing functional and sculptural items that are made to complement the enjoyment of tea. Studio 550 Gallery, 550 Elm Street, Manchester, NH will be hosting this exhibition, which was juried by Monica Leap.
This show runs January 22nd through March 06th, 2015, with an opening reception being held on Saturday, January 31st, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM.

Workhouse International Ceramic Cup Show
These three wood fired sake cups were recently selected for exhibition in "Drink This! Workhouse International Ceramic Cup Show". This
exhibition will showcase ceramic drinking vessels by contemporary
artists around the globe. The focus of the exhibit is on the variety of
ways artists explore the cup, in functional, sculptural,
traditional and non-traditional forms. Juror Phil
Rogers selected approximately 62 works from over 400 submissions. This
show opens Wednesday, January 07, 2015 and runs through Monday,
February 02, 2015. There will be an opening reception on Saturday,
January 10, 2015 from 6-8 pm. Workhouse Arts Center is located at 9601
Ox Road, Lorton, Virginia.
